The 2011 Football Team

This team did something no other Aquinas team had accomplished winning a Massey People's National Championship

The 2011 Football Team

There was talk of a repeat as Class A state champion, as Aquinas was ranked No. 1 in the state from the preseason to the postseason. Aquinas was upset 19-16 by Maine-Endwell in the state semifinals. Aquinas junior running back Billy Lombardi shared the classification's State and AGR Player of the Year award. The offense ran for more than 300 yards and with Cory Benedetto at quarterback, scored on two pass plays of 40 yards or more against Sweet Home during the state regional. The team's defense allowed a total of two field goals in two sectional games. This was Aquinas' sixth straight Section 5 Class A championship and they hadn't lost to a Section 5 opponent since early on in 2006.
